What can I do with Recall Genie?
Turn your study material into tools that help you remember it. From slides, notes, readings, or recorded lectures, Recall Genie creates Anki flashcards (Basic, Cloze, and Image Occlusion), exam-style multiple-choice quizzes with explanations, and slide-by-slide lecture notes. Everything exports as standard files you keep — most commonly an Anki deck (.apkg).
Do I need to install anything?
No. Recall Genie runs entirely in your browser. The only external app you may want is Anki itself, for studying the decks you download.
Do I need Anki already installed?
Only for studying flashcard decks — Anki is free on desktop and Android (AnkiMobile is paid on iOS). Lecture notes, PDFs, and quizzes generated by Recall Genie can also be used entirely without Anki.
Which file types can I upload?
PDFs, PowerPoint, Word documents, and images for slide decks; MP4/MOV video and MP3, M4A, or WAV audio for lectures; and .vtt/.srt/.txt transcripts if you already have one. You can drag and drop files anywhere on an upload page and they land in the right place. Scanned or image-based pages are handled by Vision/OCR.
What is Lecture Notes?
Our flagship feature: add a YouTube link, a video or audio recording, or slides plus audio, and Recall Genie writes organized notes that match what your professor said to what was being shown. It detects slide changes, captures the relevant visual, and aligns the explanation to it. You can review and edit everything, then export a speaker-notes PDF, an annotation PDF, plain text, an Anki deck, or a quiz.
What's the difference between Audio and Visual Lecture Notes?
Audio means an audio-only recording (MP3, M4A, WAV): we transcribe it and structure clean notes by concept. Visual means anything with imagery — YouTube, uploaded video, or slides synchronized with audio — where notes are organized around the slides and frames being discussed. Plans track the two allowances separately, in actual minutes of lecture, and monthly allowances reset every month on all plans.
Can I try Lecture Notes for free?
Yes — every free account includes one Lecture Notes generation for a lecture up to 30 minutes, audio or visual, your choice. It's a single lifetime trial rather than a monthly allowance.
Can Recall Genie make multiple-choice quizzes?
Yes, in two ways. Generate original exam-style questions from your material, with plausible distractors and an explanation for every option — or upload an existing practice exam and get it back as a study deck: the identical questions, with correct answers taken from the exam's own answer key or highlighted answers (detected automatically), plus explanations. Both download as Anki decks.
Can I customize how my flashcards look?
Yes. Decks can be generated in several visual themes (including the popular Milesdown style), and you choose between Basic and Cloze card formats. Diagrams and figures from your material are included on cards where they help.
What makes Recall Genie different from making flashcards manually?
Time and consistency. In dense programs you can face hundreds of slides a week; building cards by hand doesn't scale. Recall Genie produces study-ready decks, quizzes, and notes in minutes, grounded in your actual source material, so your effort goes into reviewing rather than formatting.

What does "unlimited" mean on Pro?
Genuinely unlimited for normal individual studying. Reasonable fair-use protections exist to prevent automated or bulk abuse — for example, a cap on the length of a single lecture — but they're designed never to limit a real student's workload.

Is my content private?
Yes. Your uploads and generated material become private drafts in your account — for you to review, edit, and export. Nothing is posted or shared anywhere.
